Psychoeducational Assessments
A psychoeducational assessment may be recommended for many reasons including:
-
difficulties learning at school, college, or university
-
signs of “giftedness”
-
concerns regarding child development
-
behavioral challenges at school
-
concerns that a student’s full potential is not being realized in the classroom
-
the need for “accommodations” in the classroom and for exams
-
questions regarding ideal school placement or programming
We offer psychoeducational assessments to children, adolescents, and adults.
Dr. Henderson holds a doctorate in school psychology. School psychologists are expertly trained to understand the learning process, to assess a student’s developing academic and cognitive skills, and to pull all of this information together to create a plan for the student that optimizes their chances for success.
At your discretion, Dr. Henderson can conduct all of your child’s assessment. Dr. Henderson also works with experienced clinicians who may contribute to specific portions of the evaluation.
How it Works
Intake
Dr. Henderson will begin by scheduling a 1-hour parent session. During this adult-only interview parents will have an opportunity to share information about their concerns, their child’s history, and goals for the assessment. This session can be done in person or virtually.
Assessment
Your child will participate in 6 hours of direct assessment. Typically, sessions are scheduled across 3 days.
Parents and teachers will be invited to provide additional information including online questionnaires.
Debrief
Once all testing and questionnaires have been completed, parents will be invited to a debrief session. During this session Dr. Henderson will review the assessment outcomes and recommendations.
For the adult student, the intake and debrief session is available to the student and any of their identified supports (parents, friends, involved professionals).
Report
A detailed written report documenting the assessment results and presenting pertinent recommendations will be provided.
